Disabled refuge, fire telephone and stadium marshal applications.
Simple, effective two-way communication in refuge areas is essential, firstly to assist rescue teams in determining where assistance is required and secondly to reassure people help is on the way.
Communication systems in refuge areas are known as Emergency Voice Communication (EVC) Systems. Their design and installation is governed by BS 5839 part 9 and C-TEC's recently expanded SigTEL system is now suitable for use in all types of EVC application - be it a disabled refuge, fire telephone or stadium marshal system.
Not only is the system incredibly easy to use, it is hugely cost effective in comparison to others on the market.
About the SigTEL Emergency Voice Communication System
SigTEL comprises two different types of central control equipment - a new low-cost all-in-one wall-mounting compact version which can handle up to 8 lines (expandible to 16) and a 16-128 line modular wall/desk mounting version. Both are typically located in a building's control room (or on smaller applications at a fire access point) where they allow management and/or the fire services to communicate via a telephone-style handset with the system's 'outstations'. Two types of SigTEL outstations are available - Type A (fire telephone-style) and Type B (handsfree intercom-style). Both types of outstation connect to SigTEL's central control equipment using two cores of 1.5mm2 enhanced fire rated cable of up to 1km in length.
Meets and exceeds the requirements of BS 5839 part 9

New Compact 1-8 line (expandible to 16) wall-mounting central control unit (above centre) saves valuable desk and floor space in crowded control rooms
New Type B stainless steel 'Disabled Refuge' outstations (above right) offer true duplex hands-free speech - flush, surface and weatherproof versions are available
Type A 'Fire Telephone' outstations (above left) come in locking or non-locking red steel cabinets and offer true duplex speech - semi-flush, surface and weatherproof versions are available
16-128 line wall/desk mounting central control equipment also available for larger systems
Unique 'auto-learn' facility allows fast network set up
All extensions can be named with user-defined text of up to 15 characters
Fully monitored hardware and software
System operates at 24 VDC. In the event of mains failure, operation can be maintained for 24 hours (stand-by) and 3 hours (in use) using 2 x 12V 7 Ahr batteries
Optional line tester allows cable faults to be checked prior to equipment connection
Ideal for hotels, shopping malls, office blocks, transport terminals, banks, sports stadia, entertainment complexes, auditoria, etc.
Handsfree Call Point
A hands free loud speaking version can be supplied as an alternative in stainless steel.
Both flush and surface mounting units can be supplied. The surface unit has a black leatherette (RAL9001) mild steel back box. A call is made by pressing the large momentary push button, this will then illuminate a re-assurance LED.

Remote Telephone Outstation
A remote telephone handset outstation can be supplied. This can be provided in both surface and flush mounting (surface unit shown left). This unit is finished in a red leatherette paint with a polycarbonate front label and houses a grey handset.
Operationally this unit is identical to our Fire Telephone range. By simply lifting the remote handset a call is made automatically to the central control panel. A duplex configuration similar to a standard telephone will be initiated. The front face of the surface enclosure has a slopped frame.
FireFone 5 - 5 Zone Disabled Refuge System
The FireFone 5 disabled refuge system from BC Technology is a fully compliant BS5839-Part 9 five zone emergency voice communication system designed to enable people with disabilities to communicate with fire officers in the event of being trapped in an emergency.
Current building regulations stipulate that all new non-domestic properties with more than one storey must provide refuge areas. These areas are places where disabled people who cannot easily use fire escapes can call for assistance and wait in relative safety for help to arrive.
Small and compact, the FireFone 5 comprises of the master handset, which forms part of the control panel, and up to five call points which can be flush or surface mounted and with or without a handset.
FireFone 5 is ideal for smaller premisses which are required to have an Emergency Voice Communication System as the product has 5 fully monitored lines. The 5 line limit ensures the cost effectiveness of the FireFone 5.

Channel Refuge Alarm for Disabled People in Public Places
Disabled people, like everyone else, should always have, available, safe means of escape in the event of a fire.
Call Direct System (MDC)
The system provides a simple means of connecting two locations with an independent telephone link, continuously monitored when not in use, and utilising a battery supported power supply, to allow compliance with the relevant sections of BS5839.
(Pictured left, CH/MDC/S)
In the simplest configuration, each handset automatically calls the other when lifted. Lifting the second handset will cancel the ringing current, and allow a normal FULL DUPLEX telephone conversation to take place.
Replacing both handsets resets the system.
Alternate configurations permit the inclusion of additional visual call status indicators, to allow both audible and visual 'calling' signals to be generated, with a further facility for 'call registered' indicators to be provided if required.
Up to a maximum of 4 remote units can be used at slave positions and still be monitored. Note this option only permits the 4 remote units to be addressed simultaneously, and not individually. All units may conference on the line if required.
In a quiescent state, the system is monitored for power supply failure and line damage, in addition to handset removal. A volt free changeover contact is provided for remote fault reporting.
In the simplest configuration, a single pair is routed from the central unit to the master handset location and a single pair to the slave handset location. (Note: this pair can be daisy chained to 2 other slave locations if required).
Mains and batteries are contained in the central unit.
